My uncle Stuart Peter Smith was born in 1933 and died in 2011. He came from an established local family and lived in Eastbourne throughout his whole life, residing in Longland Road, The Village Meads, St Andrews URC Church Flat and finally Southfields Road.

For many years he worked at Halfords, a job he loved; he too enjoyed cycling and motorbiking as a hobby and explored the local area extensively. He then went on to be the church warden at St Andrews URC church and was an integral part of that community for many years, before retiring.

Stuart was a bachelor and dedicated a lot of time to his hobbies; he was a keen amateur artist and photographer, an avid stamp collector, a knowledgeable bird watcher, and a bit of a historian loving publications such as 'This England', compiling scrapbooks of ephemera and writing his own thoughts, his writings about Paradise being a clear example.

With thanks to Nicky Strudwick for providing this personal 'Scrapbook' record prepared by her uncle Stuart Peter Smith with his appreciation and love of 'Paradise'.
His 'Bird Log' may prove very interesting for local ornithologists investigating the reduction of species from habitat loss.
