STONECHAT Saxicola torquata
The Stonechat was shot at Cuckmere Haven about 10 o’clock in the morning slight wind and clear, sea was rough and the ground damp not many of these birds about at the moment, lovely song bird.
A velvety coal-black head, white neck and wing patches, and reddish brown breast with lighter colour belly.
The female lacks the black and white colouring.Nests with grassy cupoften in grass with entrance tunnel.
A resident of the British Isles who enjoy coastal areas with open bushy terrain above coastal cliffs.
The male perches on tops of bushes "chatting and wheeting". Decrease in number after a severe winter.
