Residents of Meads Playing Field Association. ROMPA was formed in 1981 with the object of ensuring that fields already used for recreational activities in Meads continued to be available for the benefit of the - immediate and the wider community. ROMPA is a non-profit making registered charity and as such membership is open to all. ROMPA's grounds are located in Upper Carlisle Road opposite Moira House School. Its main activity is tennis and there are four all weather courts: two hard courts, and two which are artificially grassed with excellent floodlights to enable play after dark. New Members are particularly welcome at the club play sessions which are held during the week and at weekends. Table tennis and beginners bridge are played in the Pavilion and the grounds are available to members for recreational activities. In addition the Pavilion can be hired for meetings or events. Henry James Holman and George Ambrose Wallis from the Village ? Dear Sirs, My grandfathers, Henry James Holman and George Ambrose Wallis, were both associated with Meads village as well as other areas of Eastbourne (Henry Holman was a well known GP who lived first in Denton Road and then in Beachy Head Road and drove one of the first cars in the town, and George Ambrose Wallis was first mayor of Eastbourne). I am trying to find out more about their association with the farm cottages in the original Meads village; as a child I was taken to visit tenants, and I know the family still owned several of the dwellings as recently as the 1960. Caring for the environment. The carbon footprint to run the Meads website is very small. In order to compensate for this footprint Meads Digital Arts donated to the Woodland Trust in 2006 and 2007 for the planting of trees in East Sussex woodland. Sufficient trees have now been planted by MDA for the gradual removal of 4 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. A tiny but positive action. All MDA websites are green and doing their bit for the environment and the East Sussex countryside. MDA thanks all its Clients who have made this possible. Further plantings are planned for 2008. | ||

Hector is home! Found under floorboards in a house in Denton Road! A neighbour knocked and we went and collected. Hector is a bit thin but generally fine. Many thanks for your support A beloved pet has gone missing form the The Village, Meads areas of Eastbourne. Hector, who is micro-chipped, is a 2 year old neutered male, short haired domestic breed, small build, tabby in colour but with a distinctive white patch under his chin. Hector is extremely friendly and nosey so he could be locked in a shed or garage or some kind soul has taken him in. Meynell Games The Project Vehicle is going to be parked on Beachy Head Road over the Christmas break. Meynell Games is an organisation committed to creating better play opportunities for children and young people. Established in 1985, our experience within the Playwork sector ranges from small local work to large national projects and has involved setting up and facilitating varying play environments with our own team of playworkers (Holiday Club/After School Club/Games sessions at festivals/fetes) through to Playwork training, publications, development work and consultancy. One of our projects is known as the 'Hampshire Project' and its aim is to To increase the awareness of play in the Playwork context To support access to Playwork training To support the improvement of the quality of Playwork provision To enhance children's lives and opportunities To reach "hard to reach" parts of the playwork sector across the county Designed to meet the particular needs of this project, the vehicle is an ex mobile library 36 feet long, 12 feet 8 inches high and 8 feet 6 inches wide. It contains a classroom space, a resource centre, additional seating area, kitchen and toilet and all areas are fully accessible. All the materials used in the construction have been selected not only for their quality and comfort, but also with ecological soundness in mind. The aim is to create a space in which people feel welcome, valued, relaxed and willing and able to reflect and learn. The Project Vehicle is going to be parked on Beachy Head Road over the Christmas break whilst we set it up ready to go into the various settings across Hampshire. A HOUSE IN DENTON ROAD ? Dear Sir. I am trying to find out about a property as part of my research into a family called the Walker-Munro's, Mabel Walker-Munro rented a house in Denton Road which looks like "Cloneevin" this was proberbly about the 1920's-1930's, I think the property was owned by the Furlong family, I know it would have been a fair sized property as she always took her own cooks, cleaners and maids etc, do you know anything about this property? I may have the name slightly wrong as I have read it from a hand written letter and is not that clear. Can anybody there shed any light on this property at Denton Road Denton Meads. Hello Recently I moved from London to Kenton Court situated at 45/47 Jevington Gardens opposite the side entrance of the Grand Hotel. Can you suggest where I can find out why this small section of Jevington Gardens has 'newish' property (probably 1960 -1980s) instead of the traditional style common in this area? I wonder if this part of the street suffered bomb damage during the second world war. As the current residents of the block are mainly young and from Eastern Europe, obviously they cannot help so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
