"I have recently been informed of calls from 02035658790 received in Meads Ward, claiming to be from the "Telephone Preference management Service".
The foreign caller asks by name for the person he wishes to speak to.
He asks the question ; are you getting nuisance calls.
He is seeking to sell a device or a service to supposedly block such nuisance calls. This can lead to debit/credit card details being divulged if taken in by his spiel. Don't fall for it.
The real TPS is a free service.
Of interest, one can check such numbers on-line using the "Who calls me?" web site. There were numerous reports to be found there about this number and many others.
Also, anyone receiving such Cold Calls, should report to Trading Standards on : 01323 463446 or email :
FUNDRAISING BALL THIS SPRING
I am hosting a charity fundraising ball this spring in support of the fantastic work done by two local charities; St Wilfrid’s Hospice & Children with Cancer Fund (Polegate).
Both these charities offer fantastic services to local people in their hour of need and I felt that it would be great to support them with some fundraising (and have some fun whilst doing it!)
The Glitter Ball is arranged for Saturday 23rd April at The Winter Gardens. Guests will enjoy a three course meal, live entertainment from several local acts including “Dirty Martini” band, charity auction & raffle, casino style gaming (for fun but with prizes for the biggest winners), close up magician, live instant photography and more!
If you felt able to assist the event, there are a number of ways you could do so.
Firstly by donating a prize for the raffle or an item for the auction. If a financial donation is easier, we would be pleased to buy something on your behalf. We are really looking for unusual and special items for the auction such as autographed items, jewellery etc and have already got a few items that have been donated by celebrities & sports clubs.
Another way you could assist is by attending the event as guests. Tickets are available at £40 per head or a table of ten guests for £350.
This would make a great treat for your staff/volunteers/members whilst supporting a local charity event and we have lots of capacity should you require more than one table.
I would appreciate you forwarding this email to any colleagues/friends/volunteers that may be interested in the event.
Further details & booking information can be found on the website:
I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can join us. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss things further.
All the best.
THE DANCER PETAL MILLER ASHMOLE

In addition she has staged many full length productions for the Australian Ballet and taught in most of the ballet companies in the world.
The event is open to members and non-members either for lunch before the talk at 12.30 pm or for the talk only at 2.15 pm.

LADY CONNIE AND THE SUFFRAGETTES
I'm sure that our next drama will interest your members;
Lady Connie and the Suffragettes’ is introduced by the suffragette historian and biographer, Lyndsey Jenkins and followed by a Q&A with the Cambridge theatre company.
We can seat a group together and reserve a table in the bar at the Under Ground Theatre on Thursday 10th March at 7.30pm.
Would you like me to deliver flyers and/or brochures?
I hope you will inform your members and that they find this of interest. ( The Meads Village website has no connection with the Meads Community Association Ed. )
Thanking you in anticipation.

WIZARDS NEEDED FOR MAGIC ~ MEADS MAGIC ~ KEY EVENT ORGANISERS NEEDED
You may have seen the article in recent copy of the Herald regarding Meads Magic contribution to Eastbourne Mencap. The total raised was £1924. Despite the inclement weather it was indeed another successful event.
After 3 years of involvement, three of the committee, Sara, Faye and Hayley, have decided to stand down this year. It has been a big commitment for us as working mums and we are no longer able to continue with the planning and organisation of the event.
Other committee members will stay on but there is definitely the need for some volunteers to take on the role of key event organisers if Meads Magic is to continue.
We are pleased to be able to leave a healthy financial position and are preparing a handover document. We are keen to pass this on at the earliest possible date and now almost half way through February we would highlight the need to set a date and start planning very soon.
We will be holding a handover meeting in The Ship at 5.30 on Tuesday 1st March and would ask that you come along to support the future of Meads Magic.
Thank you for your support over the last few years.

SHARE YOUR MEADS GARDEN ~ SUMMER 2016
The Friends of Eastbourne Hospital hold a series of popular Open Gardens throughout the summer, a series of events that raise thousands of pounds to support the Eastbourne DGH.
This year the Open Garden Team have been fortunate to be offered the Meads Allotments and a garden in Beachy Head Road, to open on one Wednesday at the end of June or beginning of July 2016 (date to be confirmed).
We would like one or perhaps two more gardens to open on the same day so that visitors can wonder from one location to another. An open garden can be big or small, as long as it is beautiful or unique.
Do you live in Meads? ~ Are you proud of your garden?
Would you be happy to open it to the public for a few hours, one Wednesday in the summer?
If so, please contact the Friends Office on (01323) 438236 or firstname.lastname@example.org
and a member of our team will be in touch.

WATCH OUT ! Rogue trader warning from Neighbourhood Watch
" Police in Eastbourne are warning residents to be on their guard for rogue traders after a recent incident elsewhere in the town.
Four men called at a house and told the occupants that work needed to be done to the property. One man started to remove some tiles from a roof, while another kicked over a garden wall – they then demanded money from the occupants to fix the ‘problems’ they had identified.
Rogue traders pretend to be ‘qualified’ builders or tradespeople.
They often call unannounced, particularly targeting vulnerable people, and deliberately overcharge for unsatisfactory goods and services.
This can include charging for unnecessary work and damaging property deliberately in order to obtain money.
Police Community Support Officer Stephen Parsons said: “Police advice is to never buy goods and services from people calling unexpectedly at your door.
Use a spy hole, chain or window to check before answering and always ask for proof of identity.
If you have any doubt – keep them out.
If you are suspicious about a caller inform police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.
