THE NAOMI CLOSE GATE
I understand that there is to be a gate to stop students from cutting through to the village.
I'm sure you are aware that lots of Meads residents use this footpath as well, which I believe to be a public right of way, therefore to close it off is not acceptable.
Students are also members of the public so it is unacceptable to restrict movement of anyone.
I look forward to your comments.

I help women to achieve a new
sense of purpose through
intuitive coaching conversations.
Everything depends on what you believe about yourself.
Coaching conversations can be simple, reflective, liberating and purposeful. It can enable you to focus on the important things in your life, and help to direct that focus on moving you forward.
Through guided questioning and exploration, I can help you to define your goals, find out what makes you feel alive, and assist in overcoming fears and barriers possibly preventing you from achieving the life or results you are seeking.
If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll get the same results.
Let's get curious about what is and isn't working for you, and why things are the way they are.

There are so many negative unpleasant terrible things going on all over the world that it is heart-warming when something in a very positive area happens. Be it magnificent or tiny. Last Sunday after getting the papers and walking back along Meads Street my mobile phone decided to part company and decide to fall to the pavement silently without my knowledge. Disaster was brewing, as it included my Visa Credit card. This card is touch-less and friendly so for a few hours on that Sunday I was working out how much could be taken out with continual touching and tapping through all the stores of Eastbourne.
But the honesty of the person who found it meant none of this happened. The lost phone and card were delivered to the police station where it eventually was re-united with its grateful user. So whoever it was last Sunday who did this good honest deed, a deep sincere thank you for your considerate and honorable action.
You have improved my view of the world and saved me sleepless nights.

The Forests of Aulanko is a concert. Just not as you know it.
In the PRE-CONCERT SHOW journey to the forests of Aulanko, home of Jean Sibelius, with music written specially for the adventure by 2012 BBC Young Composer of the Year, Alex Woolf. In the LIVE PROGRAMME NOTE, fly over the Finnish landscapes that inspired Sibelius, with tales about the composer and his world.
After a COCKTAIL inspired by the music, it’s the MAIN EVENT: a performance of Sibelius’s most iconic work, his 5th Symphony. It tells of the triumph of life over death, captures the perfection of the natural world, and contains one of the greatest melodies ever written - an arc of swans flying home to nest, captured in sound.

Thieves about in the St Johns / Granville Road area
I have heard that there were thieves about in the St Johns / Granville Road area overnight on the 27/28th March.
A quantity of lead flashing was stolen from a garage terrace roof on the corner of Granville and St Johns.
The thieves made their way in via the side/back garden of the next door property of Normanhurst, St John’s Road.
They might have been disturbed as they left with only half of the lead, but might be back.
The police have been informed of this incident.
Please take note and warn anyone else with some lead on garages, or on any of their roofs or outhouses to be vigilant, and, if you or they see anything suspicious, to report it to the Police, using "999" if the incident is live.
If reporting an incident that has occurred then use "101" or email to
The last thing we want is a spate of this type of theft again in Meads!

MORE GREENERY IN BREDE HIGH WOODS EAST SUSSEX
I am pleased to report that the Meads Village website has funded the planting of 10 trees in Brede High Woods, Sedlescombe.
So a big thank you to all Meads website contributors and supporters.
The planting, carried out by the Woodland Trust will help to improve and maintain the counties wooded areas for future generations.
This is the websites 2016 contribution to helping out, a bit late but the trees will not miss a few weeks.
This planting will also help to compensate for the website's carbon dioxide waste, released somewhere in the world to generate its operating power.

HAS ANYONE LOST A BLACK CAT IN THE MEADS STREET AREA ?
yesterday evening the cat was taken to St Annes Vets , 6 St Anne’s Road , 01323 640 011 . it was scanned , showing no chip ;
it is a mature male , black with white paws and not neutered , which , i am advised , may mean that it roamed far from it’s home .
v kindly St Annes will keep the cat for a few more days
sadly i found a dead black cat with white paws in my garden at 27 Meads Street last Thursday morning , no injuries , hidden in a corner under thick ferns . it had come here before ,
never begged and altogether was a v welcome visitor .
it doesn’t have a collar and though people have seen it around no one knows who it might belong to .

Meads "Neighbourhood Watch ALERT
Apart from anything you may read in today's Herald about burglaries in Meads of late, there have been two incidents mid-this week in Meads.
The first involved a youngish male door cold caller in Beachy Head Road claiming to be from Betterware.
He said that the lady of the house had ordered items and he was here to deliver and collect the money.
The lady was out and her frail husband was taken aback and uncertain as to what to do. In the event he left the front door open and the male followed him to eventually be given £45.
No goods had been ordered and those left were in no way worth the £45 paid.
The lady reported the incident and has a reference number. The police called to see them both later after the call.
If anyone has any information about the male, please get in touch with 101 or by email to
The other concerns a picnic table and attached seating (pub style table) and a bench stolen from the garden of a property in Darley Road. The item was rather heavy and would have required at least two persons to handle it.
The loss has been reported and a reference number acquired.
Again, If anyone has any information, please get in touch with 101 or by email to
It is that time of the year when anything can happen. If you value your property, make sure it is secure.
One other point concerns the recent approaches to mainly single women by a male sometimes from a Jaguar car with an opener of "haven't I seen you at one of my events". He portrays himself as an antiques dealer and would welcome looking at anything in your home to see if he could buy anything. Sometimes he adds that he holds valuation sessions in a seafront hotel or that he is intending to open a antiques shop in Meads. BE VERY WARY AND ON ONE'S GUARD.
One does not know where befriending him may lead to."

WATCH OUT FOR SCAM PHONE CALLS
"I have recently been informed of calls from 02035658790 received in Meads Ward, claiming to be from the "Telephone Preference management Service".
The foreign caller asks by name for the person he wishes to speak to.
He asks the question ; are you getting nuisance calls.
IT IS A SCAM
He is seeking to sell a device or a service to supposedly block such nuisance calls. This can lead to debit/credit card details being divulged if taken in by his spiel. Don't fall for it.
The real TPS is a free service.
Of interest, one can check such numbers on-line using the "Who calls me?" web site. There were numerous reports to be found there about this number and many others.
Also, anyone receiving such Cold Calls, should report to Trading Standards on : 01323 463446 or email :
FUNDRAISING BALL THIS SPRING
I am hosting a charity fundraising ball this spring in support of the fantastic work done by two local charities; St Wilfrid’s Hospice & Children with Cancer Fund (Polegate).
Both these charities offer fantastic services to local people in their hour of need and I felt that it would be great to support them with some fundraising (and have some fun whilst doing it!)
The Glitter Ball is arranged for Saturday 23rd April at The Winter Gardens. Guests will enjoy a three course meal, live entertainment from several local acts including “Dirty Martini” band, charity auction & raffle, casino style gaming (for fun but with prizes for the biggest winners), close up magician, live instant photography and more!
If you felt able to assist the event, there are a number of ways you could do so.
Firstly by donating a prize for the raffle or an item for the auction. If a financial donation is easier, we would be pleased to buy something on your behalf. We are really looking for unusual and special items for the auction such as autographed items, jewellery etc and have already got a few items that have been donated by celebrities & sports clubs.
Another way you could assist is by attending the event as guests. Tickets are available at £40 per head or a table of ten guests for £350.
This would make a great treat for your staff/volunteers/members whilst supporting a local charity event and we have lots of capacity should you require more than one table.
I would appreciate you forwarding this email to any colleagues/friends/volunteers that may be interested in the event.
Further details & booking information can be found on the website:
I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can join us. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss things further.
All the best.

SHARE YOUR MEADS GARDEN ~ SUMMER 2016
The Friends of Eastbourne Hospital hold a series of popular Open Gardens throughout the summer, a series of events that raise thousands of pounds to support the Eastbourne DGH.
This year the Open Garden Team have been fortunate to be offered the Meads Allotments and a garden in Beachy Head Road, to open on one Wednesday at the end of June or beginning of July 2016 (date to be confirmed).
We would like one or perhaps two more gardens to open on the same day so that visitors can wonder from one location to another. An open garden can be big or small, as long as it is beautiful or unique.
Do you live in Meads? ~ Are you proud of your garden?
Would you be happy to open it to the public for a few hours, one Wednesday in the summer?
If so, please contact the Friends Office on (01323) 438236 or firstname.lastname@example.org
and a member of our team will be in touch.

WATCH OUT ! Rogue trader warning from Neighbourhood Watch
" Police in Eastbourne are warning residents to be on their guard for rogue traders after a recent incident elsewhere in the town.
Four men called at a house and told the occupants that work needed to be done to the property. One man started to remove some tiles from a roof, while another kicked over a garden wall – they then demanded money from the occupants to fix the ‘problems’ they had identified.
Rogue traders pretend to be ‘qualified’ builders or tradespeople.
They often call unannounced, particularly targeting vulnerable people, and deliberately overcharge for unsatisfactory goods and services.
This can include charging for unnecessary work and damaging property deliberately in order to obtain money.
Police Community Support Officer Stephen Parsons said: “Police advice is to never buy goods and services from people calling unexpectedly at your door.
Use a spy hole, chain or window to check before answering and always ask for proof of identity.
If you have any doubt – keep them out.
If you are suspicious about a caller inform police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.
